Moraig Fault Route

The route receives the name of the "natural monument" that we find at the end. It is the Falla del Moraig. The path reaches a viewpoint from where the entire Cala del Moraig can be seen to the north from a new perspective, with the Cap de la Nau in the background.In its final stretch it reaches an area of ​​geological interest, which offers the Moraig Fault, the Vasenilla and the formations and drainages sculpted by water and tectonic movements.The visit discovers a surprising corner.

Abiar-Calistros route

Difficulty: Low Distance: 7.9km

The route starts from the town center, Calle Mercado, and continues along Calle Raconet and Calle de la Iglesia. We pass through the Plaza de la Iglesia and cross the Portalet, one of the only two accesses to the walled enclosure that formed the first houses of the municipality together with the church. Here we find a viewpoint with magnificent views. We head towards Xàbia until the sidewalk ends, where we will cross and turn left towards the Camí de la Torreta. Here begins the landscape of terraced hills where fields of vineyards predominate, highlighting the cultivation of the Muscatel grape. At the fork in the Les Fonts urbanization, the route continues to the left until it reaches Pous de l'Abiar. There is a recreational area and a system of natural wells that supplied the population with water until the 1970s, mainly during the war and post-war times. We went up in the direction of the urban nucleus until Calle Mercado. From there through Trinquet street and Camí del Pouet. When you reach the end, cross the CV-740 Crtra road. of the Font. The route continues through Urbanization Calistros, Assegador road, Camí de la Torra; Camí de l'Assagador, Calle del Pozo. Before reaching the town center we find remains of a Riurau. It is an isolated rural construction that was destined to the elaboration of raisins. The riurau is the most characteristic element of the traditional architecture of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell and of the entire region.

Route of the Penya-segats (Moraig-Llebeig)

(Cala Moraig / Cala Llebeig) - 3.4 km (SL-CV50 Cala Moraig / Barranc de la Viuda) This route is part of the SL-CV50 (Cala Moraig / Cala Llebeig / Barranc de la Viuda). It runs halfway up the cliff, caused by the abrupt fall of Puig Llorença into the sea. The path allows you to enjoy the magnificent views, Mediterranean vegetation and also visit ancient caves used by fishermen. The vertical wall shelters the path and at the same time provides the perfect setting to isolate yourself and enjoy the views. The path reaches Cala Llebeig. From here, you can continue the route through the Barranc de la Viuda, in the municipality of Teulada-Moraira.

The route is difficult in the section of descent to Cala Llebeig (and its subsequent ascent). Until that section can be done with children. The route is oriented towards the east and in the morning the sun is very intense. In summer it is advisable to do the route in the afternoon, or start it as soon as the sun rises, spend the day in Cala Llebeig and return in the afternoon when there is shade all the way.

Along the way we find caves carved into the rock and dry stone constructions next to the vertical wall of the cliff. These were used assiduously until the middle of the 20th century, as a refuge for fishermen and farmers and even smugglers. The humble shelters served as shelter from the night, the storm or to leave the tools.

Most of them keep the name of those who raised or used them: Cova de les Morretes, Cova del ti Domingo l'Abiar, Cova de Pepet el Morret, Cova del ti Toni el Senyalat, Cova del Morro del Bou.

In addition, during the journey there are also some terraces that show how in the recent past the residents of the municipality took advantage of the land until they reached the sea.

The vegetation is dominated by common species on the coast of the Marina Alta such as mastic, aladierno and rosemary, accompanied by others such as esparto grass, bayón, fine-leaved crown, and lavender. It is also easy to find young specimens of Aleppo pine and other trees such as carob, fig and olive trees, typical of the Mediterranean. The influence and proximity of the sea is noticeable in the shape and leafiness of some species.

We will find other species such as the heart of palm (margalló), albada, gorse, thyme, ephedra, honeysuckle, carnation, Valencian bluebell, a very rare and endemic species in the area, as well as the minor centaurea, the blackthorn of rock, the shoe of the virgin or the rock scabiosa.

Camí de la Serp - Puig de la Llorença - Cala Llebeig

The route starts from the town center to take the Camí de la Serp; old communication route with the cultivated foothills of the sierra. It continues with the ascent to the magnificent viewpoint of Puig de la Llorença, from where it descends through the Barranc de Garsivà to the hidden Cala Llebeig, a junction point with the Cliffs Route (SL-CV 50).

On the route you will find old bridle paths, dry stone agricultural terraces, lime kilns and the remains of an old quarry from the medieval period. In addition, the route will allow you to enjoy spectacular views from Puig de la Llorença, as well as a wide variety of ecosystems with flora and fauna of great interest. As a final point, in Cala Llebeig, a refuge for pirates and smugglers, you can admire this Mediterranean coast of great beauty.

Testos Route

Difficulty: High Distance: 500m

The route runs along the bed of the Barranc de l'Infern in its last stretch of drainage to the sea. A few meters away will lead you to discover a small crystalline and isolated cove that can only be accessed by this route or by sea; It is the Cala dels Testos. As you advance along the rocky path, the Morro Falquí is revealed majestically, on the left side. On a final landing, before beginning the descent, the small cove of Testos can be seen. At that point the three difficult sections begin where the ropes are necessary to make the last descent. Between the second and third rope we can continue a path to the left, where we will find the Cova dels Testos a few meters away, a viewpoint that offers views of the south coast.
